    Antique 18th Century Georgian English Cut Glass Cruets Casters Sterling Silver
    Presented is a beautiful, 18th century antique, five-piece cut-glass cruet set produced in London, England in or about 1775. The glass pieces have hand-crafted sterling silver collars, tops and handles, all fitting neatly into a sterling silver carrying basket. The basket has five, high-collared, round compartments, five long, ornate claw feet, and a tall, heart or crown-shaped beaded handle. The basket is lovely and lush with wonderful openwork foliate patterns and lustrous beaded rims. The handle can be unscrewed from the base.
    The five cut glass pieces include two casters (salt and pepper shakers), a vinegar bottle and two oil or syrup pouring pitchers. Each piece is in a unique pattern. One pitcher bears a family crest on top depicting the head of a deer with an arrow through it.
    Hallmarks: The tray has been reinforced from underneath for added durability with a bolted sheet of brass, which obscures the hallmarks on the bottom of the silver basket, but what is visible, along with the two marks on the handle, appear to indicate Thomas Daniel of London in 1775. Each cut glass piece has a unique set of hallmarks, but seem to be within the same Georgian period, although city and date letters are too worn to decipher. One pitcher has a nice clear maker's mark and lion passant for sterling silver underneath the spout cover. This was crafted by Robert and David Hennel of London, registered in 1802.
    Condition: The tray is in great condition with no damages or repairs. All pieces are perfectly usable, and the entire set displays very well. The cut glass pieces are in good condition with an occasional chip or ding. The Hennel pitcher has some shallow abrasion at edges and around the faceted band of design, as we show in photo #10, but the design is still very attractive. The stag pitcher has a chip near the collar, also shown in photo #10, and the vinegar has an indent inherent to production and a spot of soil inside that can be cleaned. On the two shorter casters, part of their style includes two glass rings that were applied to the  glass bodies during their hand-made production, and inside each of these, you will see a seam. There are no cracks or damages to the glass, but lines are visible upon close inspection.
