Description
George III Sterling Silver Gilt Vinaigrette by Samuel Pemberton 1793/94Here we have a nice quality silver-gilt vinaigrette made by Samuel Pemberton in Birmingham, England in 1793-1794. The top and bottom both have an engine-turned surface. The small rectangular center of the top has not been engraved as they usually are. Inside we have a finely pierced cover featuring curly leaves, vines and flowers, and includes a very old sponge. Both hinges work well and close tightly and the gilding is still strong after over 200+ years.
Correctly marked with an anchor for Birmingham ; initials SP for Samuel Pemberton ; a lion passant for sterling ; a capital V in a shield for 1793/94 and a kings head (hopefully these can be seen in my photos, although the marks are somewhat rubbed). The box weighs 14.5 grams. A small Georgian collectible you're sure to have room for !
Size : 1 3/8" (3.49 cm) Wide // 1" (2.54 cm) Deep // 3/8" (.95 cm) Tall Condition : Excellent. Marks somewhat rubbed, but still readable. The inside cover does not possess the brown tones as it appears in the 5th photo.
From a non-smoking, pet-free home. Please see photos and condition report above.
