When Danelectro first began their relationship with Sears & Roebuck, in 1954, their guitars had true solid bodies. Unlike what you’d buy only a year later, the ‘54 had a solid poplar body and a neck containing a length aluminum square stock that extends from the top of the neck, down through the body. The back sides of the neck feature two pieces of wood secured by dowels to the square aluminum stock running through the entire neck underneath the frets. The neck is fastened by two screws, going through the same aluminum rod, into the poplar body.
Dano aficionados will recognize the aluminum nut, the moveable rosewood saddle on a three-point bridge, and a tone switch for the single pickup that would become hallmarks of Danelectro construction.
However, the one-piece pickguard/pickup cover are unique solely to the first year of production.  The early pickup design was still identical to that of later ones (the coil is wound directly onto the magnet, with no bobbin). By the end of 1955, the pickup would be encased in the familiar “lipstick tube”, and the pickguard would clear piece of plastic over a piece of textured vinyl.
Back in the day, you could open up a Sears catalog and pickup this honey for .95 (or .50 with case). Until you get your time machine fixed, you’re stuck with ebay.
