***CLICK THE "SEE OTHER ITEMS" LINK TO SEE MY OTHER VINTAGE OFFERINGS***This fine example of the "Hand Vibrato" model was offered in single and double pickup versions as was the more affordable Standard model, made famous by Mr. “White Summer” himself. This is a great-sounding if less common piece of Neptune New Jersey mojo, dating to around 1963. By ’63, Danelectro was deep in the “Totally Shielded” marketing campaign, and had gone to the triangle neck bolt patter to accommodate the new allen wrench adjustment hole. However, they hadn’t yet begun using the “skate key” tuners which were across the line by ’64 (to my knowledge).
In the Dano world, this model is often referred to as having a “Duckfoot” or “Batwing” headstock. Considering the classy tuxedo color scheme perhaps we should refer to itas a Penguin Foot. This headstock's “Danelectro" script logo is still intact. The neck is of course capped with a thick slab of never to be seen again Brazilian rosewood.
Of course this comes with the original classic “lipstick” pickup and 3-way switch mounted to the enlarged white Masonite pick guard. Considering this guitar’s age, I’d say it is in very good shape, with original tuners, knobs, nut, cavity cover, bridge and end pins. This 4011 still has the original and rare red cap nuts on the bridge that allow one to mount the bar on either side of the plate. This features the standard 3-point Danelectro bridge, but with a large vibrato coil spring underneath the rear screw, accessed by a press-on chromed cover in the back. It works quite well for surfy shimmer, but leave the dive bombing to your pointy, and very unmanly Ibanez.
Overall length is 39”, with 13” width at lower bout, and 1½” in depth. Scale length is 25”. Width of nut is 1 5/8”.
